One boot has been painted with a blue sky, snow and snowflakes while the other portrays a blue sky with snow, dandelions and dandelion seeds. The concept for these boots came from the unusually high snowfall in Toronto this past year. While Karen was shoveling her driveway yet again, she found herself thinking, "I wish I didn't have to do this. I wish it was summer." Meanwhile, her son was inside with a fractured ankle during March Break, the first time there has been enough snow to toboggan and play in. This led Karen to think about what her lawn would look like without snow on it, and the image of dandelions came to mind. The artist has never sprayed and will never spray her lawn with pesticides, and removes the dandelions manually. She remembered how her children used to love picking the dandelions to give to her as bright, beautiful bouquet of flowers, then move on to the ones that have gone to seed. Pick it, make and wish and blow it to the wind. Such a delight! Soon, the dandelions will go to seed.
